Oz Trivia - AFL

OzTrivia - AFL edition

Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions about the Oz Trivia - AFL app.

Will you continue to add questions?

Yes! I will add questions regularly throughout the season. For example, version 1 had about 600 questions in the database, while the version 1.1 update contained over 850 questions! Also, at the completion of the season, questions will be added and updated to include the results of the current season.  In this way the answers will remain current.

Will you continue to improve the app?

Yes! If I become aware of any bugs, I aim to address them as a matter of urgency. Also, any popular suggestions are seriously considered for future updates. For example, a totally new scoring system was introduced in version 1.1 based on the suggestions of users!

How many unique questions are there?

There are literally hundreds of questions. In fact, if you play a ‘500 question’ game all questions will be unique! And, because I add new questions with each update, the number of questions will continue to grow.

What is the number that appears at the bottom left of the app whenever a question is asked?

This number shows the Question ID of the question being asked. I made this visible so that it was easy for users to identify the question if they find a mistake or don’t agree with an answer. Please quote this ID if sending me feedback about a particular question.

Occasionally a question I have previously answered correctly will appear again. Why is this?

The Oz Trivia - AFL app literally contains hundreds of questions. The app is designed to randomly ask one of these questions, one by one. However, depending on the version of iOS you are running, this will work differently:

  1. Users of iOS 9 and above will continue to see a different question while playing the game regardless of whether they have answered them correctly or not. However, questions are reset each time you:
         - complete a game and choose to play again,
         - enter the main menu to choose a different game, or
         - quit the app.

Regardless of how questions are reset, all questions become available again. However, questions are not reset if you choose to ‘restart’ a game you’re already playing. For example, if you’re playing the ’25 question’ game and chose to restart it after reaching the 20th question, the next game will not ask you any of the previously asked questions. This is because the app sees this as being a continuation of the same game, but with your score reset.

  2. Users of iOS 7 and iOS 8 will occasionally see repeated questions because the app is coded to simply choose a question at random. Because this is totally random, it is possible you will see the same question a number of times, sometimes even consecutively.

How do I ensure questions are not repeated while playing the game?

If you’re running iOS 9 or above, your best bet is to choose a longer game. For example, if you pick a 250 question game, all 250 questions will be unique. Don’t worry, there are literally hundreds of questions, even picking a 500 question game will present users with only unique questions.

If you’re running iOS 7 or iOS 8 questions are totally random and there is no way you can prevent a question from repeating.

I chose a long game and haven’t got time to finish it - can I continue it later?

Yes! Just make sure you don’t quit the app. Don’t worry, the app will sit happily in the background for as long as you want. It is designed to use very little memory, and while in the background it uses almost no battery power. In fact, testing has shown the app can run in the background for weeks without problem.

Can you explain how scoring works?

It’s very simple. Each time you answer a question correctly your score will increase. For example, if you answer one of the ‘hardest’ questions correctly you will score a goal. If you answer one of the other questions correctly you will score anywhere from one to four behinds, depending on its difficulty. Overall there are five levels of questions and what you score for a correct answer will depend on the difficulty of the question you answered. Your percentage of correct answers is also displayed as you play the game, and for some users this is more important than the actual score itself!

Can you explain how ‘high scores’ work?

The app keeps a record of your high score for each challenge. For example, if you pick a 50 question game, the app will save your best score for that challenge. If you later choose to play a 100 question game, the app will also save your best score for that challenge. In this way you’ll always know your best score for each challenge.

Do you have other Trivia apps available on the App Store?

Yes! There is an Australia Day Quiz app (it’s free!) and an Oz Trivia - NRL app. Also in the works are a range of other Trivia apps for Cricket, Sport in general, Politics, and other topics. I am also considering a suggestion to produce one ‘mega edition’ that will include all questions (literally thousands of them) from the other trivia apps combined.

Do you have other apps available on the App Store?

I am currently working on three non-trivia apps. These are all due to be released in 2016. A unique ‘sharing economy’ business app is also scheduled for release in 2017. Watch this space!

Why does the app occasionally prompt me to review the app or send a suggestion?

Reviews actually make a big difference to the success (or failure) of an app. In fact, research indicates that about 70% of users will read reviews to help them decide whether or not to download an app. Also, the App Store does not show a rating until a certain number of reviews have been written.

In terms of the prompt itself, this will appear on five occasions at various intervals. Hopefully these intervals are spaced out enough so as not to annoy you. After the fifth prompt you will no longer be prompted (unless you have deleted the app and reinstalled it).

Do you take on board suggestions?

Yes! For example, the current scoring system of the Oz Trivia - AFL app was based on suggestions from users, as was the question countdown clock. Have a suggestion? Bring it on!

How do I contact you if I have a suggestion/problem or other feedback?

All apps provide the ability to send me feedback directly from the info screen. You can also send me an email to:

I read all feedback. So please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts!
